We practice organic and bio-dynamics and have been fully certified with BioGro since 2014. Much of the vineyard work is carried out by hand, including hand harvesting to preserve the quality of the fruit.

The Canyon
Repurposed
The Canyon has had an interesting life! Previously a restaurant at Highlands, it was dramatically moved 22.5km to the Canyon location due to the size of the building. Road signs had to be moved, power lines lowered and traffic cleared with a team of 7 pilot vehicles.

On the slopes above our Northburn vineyard grows an ancient Kōwhai tree. Survivor of droughts and fires, this gnarled and craggy ancestor bursts into beautiful golden flower each spring, providing food for the birds and other wildlife in the surrounding area.

The Gate works closely with Central Otago Resilience Trust and other local community groups, providing funds to those in the community who need it most. Staff wellbeing is forefront, all birthdays celebrated, Christmas function and mental health placed as a priority.
