Founded by seasoned hospitality professionals, Penny Black brings together over 20 years of experience in some of the top kitchens across New Zealand and Australia. Our passion lies in delivering "proper kiwi food" — nothing overly refined, just honest, quality dishes served with a dash of Kiwi spirit. Our team has worked in some of the most prestigious restaurants, including The Bunker, Aosta, Ahi, Cibo Parnell, The French Café, and many others across New Zealand & Australia.
Our vision for Penny Black is simple: to offer Cromwell something it deserves — a place where locals and visitors can experience high-quality food without pretence. We're not trying to be fancy or avant-garde. Instead, we’re about delivering wholesome, flavoursome meals that resonate with the Kiwi way of life.
