In Central Otago we encourage and support you, as business leaders, to be innovative and creative in the way you develop and operate your businesses, with an eye to the future.
We’re conscious that industry, and the way we work, is continually changing and that many jobs that exist today will likely be replaced by different types of work in years to come.
We have talented people and world class industry based here in Central Otago, and we believe in supporting an innovative eco-system that develops our strengths to build a positive and robust future: innovation breeds innovation.
This collaborative environment has contributed to us seeing a high percentage of self-employed people in our community. We’re going from strength to strength.
What is Economic Development?
Economic development is primarily about raising the standard of living of our people. It is essential for the wellbeing of our community and underpins all our social and cultural aspirations.
Economic development enables jobs for our young people (so they don't have to move away), a good cup of coffee when you need a rest from cycling the rail trail, thriving local communities, good schools, the talent needed to support industry, and the ability to facilitate opportunities for the community around sport and leisure – e.g. the local drama society or rugby team.
Nick Lanham is the Central Otago District Council's Economic Development Manager, and he is happy to provide advice on local conditions and connect you with relevant individuals.
